When I was 4, I was awakened.

It was not a choice.

I choose to recognize the shape of the awakening that lingered.

To face the faces it takes on today.

To face each time I have been since awakened without choosing.

I choose to try and remain

awake.

Even though I woke up too early for my body or my brain to take.
